Capture a Scrolling Screenshot of Any Website Online

A scrolling screenshot records a web page while the browser scrolls it from top to bottom, so paste a URL below, pick a device, format, speed, and clip length, and click Record Scrolling Screenshot to download the clip as MP4, WebM, or GIF. ScreenshotAPI.net loads the page in real Chrome, removes cookie banners and ads if you ask it to, and records up to 15 seconds free, with no extension and no signup.

Three steps

How to Take a Scrolling Screenshot of a Website

To take a scrolling screenshot you normally install an extension or start a screen recorder and scroll by hand. Here the recording happens on a server, so the only input is the URL and three choices.

  1. 01

    Paste the page URL

    Type or paste the address of the page. The protocol is added if you leave it out, and the page opens in a fresh Chrome session with no stored cookies or history.

    Website URL

  2. 02

    Set speed, length, and format

    Pick slow, normal, or fast scrolling, a clip length of 5, 10, or 15 seconds, and MP4, WebM, or GIF. Turn on scroll back if the clip should return to the top before it ends.

    Scroll speed · Clip length · Format

  3. 03

    Record and download

    ScreenshotAPI.net waits for the page to load, scrolls it from top to bottom while recording at 30 frames per second, and returns a link you can download or share.

What a Scrolling Screenshot Records

The file is a screenshot while scrolling: a real Chrome window moving down the page at a steady pace, saved frame by frame. The strip below shows what the same page looks like at four points in a normal speed clip.

  • Desktop 1680 x 867
  • Tablet 624 x 866
  • Mobile 425 x 812
  1. 1

    Smooth top to bottom motion

    Sticky header, same spot in every frame

    The browser scrolls continuously at the speed you chose. Nothing is stitched, so parallax backgrounds, sticky headers, and fixed buttons behave the way a visitor sees them.

  2. 2

    Content that appears on scroll

    Lazy images load at 4 s, once they enter view

    Lazy loaded images, counters, and sections that animate into view fire while the page moves and are caught on camera in the order they appear.

  3. 3

    Only the viewport you picked

    Fixed chat button, bottom right throughout

    The capture is the page area at 1680 x 867, 624 x 866, or 425 x 812 pixels. There is no browser chrome, no cursor, and no audio track in the file.

In the file

  • Page viewport at the chosen size
  • Sticky and fixed elements in motion
  • Lazy content as it loads
  • Scroll driven animations
  • 30 frames per second

Not in the file

  • Browser tabs and address bar
  • Mouse cursor
  • Audio track
  • Cookie banners, if removal is on
  • Ads, if blocking is on

Choose MP4, WebM, or GIF for Your Scroll Capture

The same scrolling capture can be saved three ways. The sizes below are from one 11 second recording of github.com at 1680 x 867, normal speed, made on 21 October 2026, so they compare like for like.

Comparison of MP4, WebM, and GIF output for a scrolling screenshot

WebMVP9 · 30 fps · 1680 x 868Chrome, Firefox, Edge, Android, and recent versions of Safari. Some older iOS versions and video editors skip it.391 KBEmbedding on your own site with a video tag, where the smaller file saves bandwidth.
GIFanimated image · 10 fps · scaled to 1280 x 661Anywhere an image goes: README files, GitHub issues, Notion, Jira, Confluence, help centers, and chat tools that block video.4.3 MBShort loops in places that only accept images. Keep the clip short and the viewport small, because GIF files grow fast.
Scrolling screenshot tool controls

Control Scroll Speed, Duration, and Scroll Back

Every control in the tool is one field in the API request. Change a setting above and the matching key changes below, so moving from the free tool to automation is a copy and paste.

Scroll speedscroll_speed

slow · normal · fast

How far the page moves per frame. Slow lets a viewer read along, normal matches a person scrolling, fast suits a teaser or a loop.

Clip lengthduration

5 · 10 · 15 in the tool, 0 to 60 in the API

The time budget for the scroll. A short page reaches the bottom early and the clip ends there, so a long page needs a longer duration or a faster speed.

Scroll backscroll_back

true · false

After the bottom, scroll up to the top again so the clip ends where it began. Pair it with GIF for a seamless loop.

Video formatfile_type

mp4 · webm · gif

The container the recording is saved in. MP4 is the default.

Devicewidth · height

1680 x 867 · 624 x 866 · 425 x 812

The viewport the browser records. The API accepts any size up to 7680 x 4320 and a sizes list for several viewports in one call.

Clean pageblock_ads · no_cookie_banners

true · false

Applied before the recording starts, so consent dialogs and ad slots do not sit on top of the page while it scrolls.

Two more keys exist only in the API. start_immediately begins recording as navigation starts so the clip shows the page loading, and video records the viewport for the duration without scrolling, for dashboards and animations.

Scrolling Screenshot vs Full Page Screenshot

Scrolling screenshot and long screenshot for two different files. If you want to screenshot a scrolling page as one tall still image, use the full page screenshot tool. If you want to see the page move, you are in the right place.

Scrolling Screenshot in Chrome, Firefox, and Edge Without an Extension

Each desktop browser can save a long page as a still image on its own. None of them record the scroll as a video without an extension. This tool runs the browser on a server, so there is nothing to install and nothing that reads your browsing.

Chrome

Built in

Full size screenshot in DevTools

F12Ctrl / Cmd + Shift + Pcapture full size screenshot

Open DevTools, open the command menu, and run Capture full size screenshot. Chrome saves one tall PNG of the page. For a Chrome scrolling screenshot with motion you need a scrolling screenshot extension from the Web Store or a screen recorder, because the browser itself does not record the scroll.

Firefox

Built in

Take Screenshot, then Save full page

Right clickTake ScreenshotSave full page

Firefox has shipped a full page capture since version 56. It is a still image too. A Firefox scrolling screenshot video needs an add on or a desktop recorder, and the add ons that record often ask for permission to read every site you visit.

Edge

Built in

Web capture, then Capture full page

Ctrl + Shift + SCapture full page

Edge's Web capture saves a full page image you can draw on and share. The same limit applies: a scrolling screenshot in Edge is a static capture, and the motion version is not built in.

Paste the URL at the top of this page instead. The recording is made in headless Chrome on our servers, works the same from Safari or a phone, and the file is yours to download as MP4, WebM, or GIF.

Other methods

Other Ways to Capture a Scrolling Screen on Mac and Windows

Most searches for a scrolling screenshot on Mac, Windows, or a PC end at a still image feature or a third party app. Here is what each platform gives you out of the box, with the keys to press and the file you get back.

Mac

No scrolling capture built in

Needs an app
Press
Cmd+Shift+5Screen recording toolbar
You get
Still image or screen video
Add ons
CleanShot X, Shottr, Safari export as PDF

Cmd + Shift + 3, 4, and 5 capture the screen or record it as a video, but macOS has no scrolling screenshot of its own. Safari can export the whole page as a PDF from the File menu.

Windows

Still images and screen recording

Needs an app
Press
Win+Shift+SSnipping Tool
You get
Rectangle, window, or full screen
Add ons
ShareX, PicPick

The Windows 11 Snipping Tool captures a rectangle, a window, or the full screen and can record the screen, but it does not stitch a scrolling page. ShareX and PicPick add one as a single tall image.

iPhone

Full page as a PDF or image

Built in
Press
Side+Volume upThen tap the preview and choose Full Page
You get
PDF, or an image since iOS 17
Limits
Safari and a few Apple apps only

Take a normal screenshot in Safari, tap the preview, and choose Full Page. iOS saves the whole page as a PDF or, since iOS 17, as an image. Third party browsers do not get the option.

Android

Capture more

Built in
Press
Power+Volume downThen tap Capture more
You get
One tall image
Limits
Samsung calls it Scroll capture

On Android 12 and newer, take a screenshot and tap Capture more to extend it down the page. The result is one tall image, not a video.

Any device

Paste a URL instead

Every method above needs the page open on your own screen and gives you an image. A URL tool records any public page from a server, so it works the same on a phone, a locked down work laptop, or inside a CI job, and the output is a video you can post.

Press
Record Scrolling Screenshot
You get
MP4, WebM, or GIF clip

Any browser, no install

Automate Scrolling Screenshots With the ScreenshotAPI.net API

Recording every landing page after a release, or producing a scroll clip for each product URL? Send the request below. scrolling_screenshot=true switches the renderer to video, and the response is JSON with the hosted file in the screenshot field. Pass a sizes list to record desktop, tablet, and mobile in one call, or run it from Claude or Cursor through the record_scrolling_video MCP tool.

scrolling_screenshot
true records the page scrolling instead of taking a still image. The response is JSON and the video URL is in the screenshot field.
file_type
mp4 (default), webm, or gif.
duration
Seconds the scroll may take, 0 to 60. Short pages reach the bottom sooner and the clip ends there.
scroll_speed / scroll_back
slow, normal, or fast, and whether to scroll back up to the top at the end for a loop.
sizes
A list of width and height pairs. One request returns one video per viewport, for example desktop, tablet, and mobile.
start_immediately / video
start_immediately records from the first navigation so the clip shows the page loading. video=true records the viewport for the duration without scrolling.
POSThttps://shot.screenshotapi.net/v3/screenshot
# The API answers with JSON, for example:
# { "screenshot": "https://.../page.mp4", "file_type": "mp4", "duration": 10 }
curl -X POST "https://shot.screenshotapi.net/v3/screenshot" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{
    "token": "YOUR_API_KEY",
    "url": "https://example.com",
    "scrolling_screenshot": true,
    "file_type": "mp4",
    "duration": 10,
    "scroll_speed": "normal",
    "scroll_back": false,
    "width": 1680,
    "height": 867,
    "no_cookie_banners": true,
    "block_ads": true
  }'

# Then download the video from the "screenshot" URL
curl -o scrolling-screenshot.mp4 "https://.../page.mp4"
Use cases

Where Scrolling Screenshots Help

A still image answers what a page contains. A scrolling clip answers how it feels to move through it. These are the places where that difference pays off.

  1. 01

    Portfolio and case study previews

    Show a whole landing page in a five second loop instead of a cropped thumbnail. A GIF with scroll back plays inline on Behance, Dribbble, and personal sites.

  2. 02

    QA and bug reports

    Record the scroll on a staging URL so jank, a sticky header that jumps, or a lazy section that never loads is visible in the ticket without a screen share.

  3. 03

    Launch posts and ads

    An MP4 of the page scrolling autoplays on LinkedIn, X, and Product Hunt, where a tall PNG is cut off or shrunk to a sliver.

  4. 04

    Client approvals

    Send a clip of the live page in chat instead of asking a client to open a link, scroll, and describe what they see.

  5. 05

    Changelogs and docs

    A GIF of the new page in a README, a Notion doc, or a help center article shows the layout without hosting a video.

  6. 06

    Monitoring and archives

    Record your own pages or a competitor at a fixed viewport on a schedule through the API, and compare clips over time.
